GOSHEN — Vivian P. Stoffel, 88, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Lowville, N.Y., to Aaron M. and Pearl B. (Reyn) Zehr.
On May 1, 1949, she married J. Louis Stoffel Jr. at Eighth Street Mennonite Church. He died May 4, 2009.
She is survived by a son, Don (Rosilynn) Stoffel and a daughter, Terri (Danny) Jones, both of Middlebury; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cal (Emma) Zehr of Goshen and Melvin (Norma) Zehr of Lowville; a sister, Jane (Melvin) Birky of Denver; and a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Zehr of Watertown, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Hilton Zehr in 1977; a sister, Mary Lehman in 2010; and a brother-in-law, Addison Lehman in 2008.
A Goshen resident since 1949, Mrs. Stoffel was a member of Christian Fellowship and a former member of Eighth Street Mennonite Church, where she was involved in various activities.
A graduate of Goshen College, she owned and operated — with her husband — Lincoln Avenue Schwinn in Goshen. She also worked at Chase Bag Factory, River View Florist and Plank's Printing, all in Goshen. For many years, she and her husband wintered in Florida and Fort Mill, S.C.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 3, and for an hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, March 4, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Craig Garber of Christian Fellowship will officiate. Burial will follow in Little Pine Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and Greencroft Foundation.
