John Robert Fairbrother died Saturday, May 25, 2013 in Grand Haven at Sanctuary at the Shore.

He was born in Pontiac, Michigan on October 12, 1921. After graduating from Pontiac Catholic High School, John joined the military and was a WWII Army Veteran. He moved to the Holland area in 1950 and married the former Noreen Taylor. John spent most of his career as a meat cutter at various local markets and retired from Taft's in Saugatuck in the late 1980's. After retirement, John and Noreen moved to Gulliver in the UP. John enjoyed spending time with his family along with cooking, baking, metal detecting, and camping. He was a quiet man but had many entertaining stories to share with his family. John also spent time taking his dog for long walks in the park. John was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Noreen Ruth Fairbrother, a sister, Frances Hamlin, and brother, Thomas Fairbrother.

John was a loving and devoted father to his four children who survive him; George Fairbrother, Virginia (Ginny) Fairbrother (Gary Marble), John Fairbrother (Sheila), and James Fairbrother (Denise) along with his wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is also survived by brothers Louis Fairbrother (Barbara) and William Fairbrother (Sharon) of Pontiac, and brother-in-law, William Hamlin of Jenison; several nieces and nephews.

John's request to be cremated has been honored. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 480 152nd Ave, Holland, MI 49424. A light luncheon will follow the service.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
