Howard C. Anderson, age 93, of Edwardsville, Illinois died at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Howard was a maintenance foreman for Olin Brass in East Alton. He retired after 45 years. Howard was born February 15, 1920, in Granite City the son of the late William C. & Della Ann (Schmidt) Anderson. He married Lela R. Ahlers on February 5, 1941. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1982. He later married Mary (Gornto) Puhse on November 22, 1986. Beside his wife Mary he is survived by 1 son, Michael J. Anderson & wife Kay of Granite City; 1 daughter, Judith G. Frey of Anaheim, California; 1 brother, Irwin "Babe" Anderson of Mt. Olive; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Doris Anderson; 2 step-sons, Thomas G. Puhse, Jr. of Edwardsville and Neil E. Puhse & wife Sandi of Lighthouse Point, Florida; 1 step-daughter, Susan Hartnagel & husband Greg of Edwardsville; and 5 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Anderson, 2 daughters, Ruth Belusko and Jeanette Anderson, 3 brothers, Milton, Kenneth, & Leonard Anderson, and 2 sisters, Evelyn Smith & Pearl Jones. Howard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II & Korea. Howard was also a member of the American Legion Post 199 in Edwardsville and the Olin Brass Westerner Club. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Glen Carbon. Family requests memorials to the Fr. McGivney High School in Edwardsville or the Third Baptist Church at Grand & Washington in St. Louis.
