GEORGE LEONARD ROBERTSON, JR., 84, died peacefully on Tuesday March 27, 2007, in Houston. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Robertson, who passed away in 2005. Born August 28, 1922, in Austin, George grew up in Meridian and Fort Worth.

He attended Texas Christian University and the University of Texas. After serving as an officer in the US Navy during World War II, he graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1948. He and Betty moved to Houston in 1953, where he had a long and distinguished career as an oil and gas attorney, and was a partner in Houston's Butler & Binion law firm. During his later career he was an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law and the South Texas College of Law, teaching courses in environmental and international law. He was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where he taught adult education for many years and was on the Board of Stewards.

He is survived by his five children, Nancy Silander of Storrs, CT; Patricia Robertson of San Francisco, CA; Philip Robertson of Plainwell, MI; Carol Robertson of San Diego, CA; David Robertson of Minnetonka, MN; and thirteen grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his loving sister, Muriel "Susie" Foley, in 1985.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at The Settegast-Kopf Co. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2007, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Hines Baker Room. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to the St Luke's Foundation, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer, Houston 77027, or the Christian Community Service Center, 3230 Mercer, Houston 77027.
