The Charleston Gazette - Wednesday, March 22, 1961 Page 24 - VanHORN, Gordie - Service for Mr. VanHorn, 72, of Hur, Calhoun County, who died Monday at his home after a long illness, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mt. Zion Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Duskey officiating. Burial will be in Slider Cemetery near Mt. Zion. He was a retired barber. Surviving are his wife, India Slider; a son, Harold of Parkersburg; two daughter, Mrs. Harry Ruff of Parkersburg and Mrs. Mark Stratton of Los Angeles Calif.; two brothers, A. L. of Clarksburg, Ohio and Okey of Akron, Ohio and three sisters, Mrs. E. F. Britney of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. W. B. Burns of Akron, Ohio and Mrs. Alma Ford of Parkersburg. The body is at Stump Funeral Home at Grantsville and will be taken to the church an hour before service.

Son of James Cicero Vanhorn and Sarah Stump. He first married Bertie Hathaway, on July 18, 1909, in Calhoun County WV. He then married India Slider. They were married in Calhoun County WV, on March 29, 1923. Mr. Vanhorn was a retired barber and lived to be 72 years old.
