FRED L. Harwood TAKEN BY DEATH - Retired Printer Succumbs After Illness - Fred L. Harwood, 78, of 1606 W. North st., died at 12:16 p.m. Thursday in the City Hospital following a one-year illness. Mr. Harwood, a retired printer, was born Feb. 20, 1859 in Hillsboro, O. but had lived in Springfield for more than 15 years. Previous to his retirement, he was employed by the Crowell Publishing Co. for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Central M. E. Church. He leaves his widow, Mattie Ellen; five sons, Armer J. of Urbana, Carl L. of Springfield, Fred of Norwalk, and Paul and Robert E. of Dayton; one sister, Mrs. Warren Myers of Springfield; three brothers, Roy of Springfield, Edward of Nome, Alaska, and Herbert of Hillsboro; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home and will be returned to the residence Friday for services at 1 p. m. Saturday in charge of the Rev. Dr. Jesse Swank, Pastor of the Central Methodist Episcopal Church, with burial in the Memorial Park, Dayton. Source: Daily News, Springfield, Ohio, 03 Sep 1937
