Olson, James "Merle" S.

James "Merle" S. Olson, age 53, a resident of Mishicot, entered eternal life while surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

Jim was born on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1960 in Greenfield, son of Arlene Fleming Olson and the late Roger L. Olson. In May of 1960, Jim, his parents, and brother Greg moved from Milwaukee to Manitowoc. He attended Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran schools and was confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Jim graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1978 and then went on to complete the welding program at LTC. He was employed at Manitowoc Tractor Sales, Manitowoc Tool & Machine, Fox Valley Tool & Die, and Lindquist Machine as an assembler and field service tech. On October 9, 2004, Jim was united in marriage with Jeanne Carlson at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, cooking, and taking long journeys on his BMW motorcycle. Jim was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Viking Bow and Gun Club.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jeanne; step-daughter, Kysa (Gregory) Walter; step-grandchildren, Kaleb and Mackenzie Walter; mother, Arlene Olson; brother and sister-in-law, Greg (Tani Kohlmeier) Olson; mother-in-law, Alice Carlson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law to include: Roger (Darlene) Carlson, Joan (Dean) Marcell, Jill (Larry) Robarge, and Janet (Len) Scuffham; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Roger L. Olson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Rev. Robert Kujawski and Rev. Stephen Melso will officiate with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home & Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Jim's family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Aurora BayCare Medical Center's ICU, especially Dr. Matas, Jerad, Toni, Mary Lee, Molly, and Kindel.
