Charles Callaghan Victim of Heart Attack Monday
Charles Callaghan passed away at his home Monday morning as the result of a heart attack. At the time of his death he was 73 years, 9 months, and 4 days old.

Mr. Callaghan was born March 29, 1865, in New York, and at the age of four came with his parents to Woodbury County where he spent the remainder of his life. In 1928 he retired from a successful career of farming and he and his wife moved to their present home in Smithland. He was active in community affairs, and at the time of his death was a member of the town council.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Weber on August 25, 1891. To this union were born four children, Carl and Carol of Oto, Minnie Eichhorn of Hornick, and Jennie Claus of Smithland. Surviving besides his widow and four children are two brothers, Will of Smithland, and James of Oto, and a sister, Mrs. Kate Daudy of Hornick.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the German City Church with Rev. W. Kramme, pastor of the church, officiating. Pallbearers were his two sons-in-law, Ed Claus and Hermie Eichhorn, three grandsons, Clem Claus, Roy Callaghan, and Oral Callaghan, and brother-in-law, John Weber. To sing the favorite hymns of the deceased was a mixed quartet-Doris Hall, Harriett Aldrich, Casper Steinhoff, and Everett Persinger. Miss Elsie Parker accompanied at the piano. The Willman Funeral Home of Rodney had charge of the body which was laid to rest in the cemetery by the church.
