William Wayne "Stick" Shepherd was born on January 8, 1948 in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee, the son of John Samuel "Johnny" Shepherd (1916–1968) and Dorothy Lenora (Motes) Shepherd (1922–2001).
He played little league baseball and was a 1965 graduate of Clarksville High School, then worked at the Music City Dragway, Beech Bend and Clarksville Speedway. A US Air Force veteran, he was later employed by the Civil Service at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was also a member of Hilldale Baptist Church, a member of the NHRA and a 32nd-degree Mason at Lodge #761, having joined in 1969.
He was married to Mildred -- .
Still living in Clarksville, Stick was 66 years old when he died on March 3, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.
Survivors included his widow, a sister, nephew, great-nephew and his best pal Puppy Dog, all in Clarksville.
Funeral Services were held on March 8th at the chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, and burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Clarksville.
