Joseph Apfelbeck, 83, Colby, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Golden Living Center Three Oaks, Marshfield.

Visitation will be Saturday at the church in Colby from 8:30 AM until time of service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. Rev. John Gualbert, Pastor, and Rev. Keith Apfelbeck, a nephew to Joseph, will preside. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in the town of Colby with military honors.

Joseph was born January 6, 1925, in Colby to Bernard and Bernadine (Hoffman) Apfelbeck.

He attended Riverview School for six years and attended two years at St. Mary's Parochial School.

Later in life, he served his country in the United States Army from 1948 until 1950. He was assigned to the 162nd Signal Core/Communication Command until his honorable discharge. He later joined the Army reserve form 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.

Joseph was a former farm hand and truck driver. He also worked on road construction and did wood working. He enjoyed sharpening saws after this retirement.
