Catherine Roberta "Dot" (Barnett) Forrester was born on June 10, 1928, and died on March 6, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional's Hospice Home. Her parents were John Marvin Barnett and Hattie (Smith) Barnett of Greer, SC.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 66 years, Walter Forrester, and her brothers, Willie, Henry, Marshall, Beauford, Wayne, Randolph, Leonard and Bobby Barnett, and sisters Sarah Barnett, Clara Cannon, and Viola Wofford.

She attended Greer and Laurens County Schools. Dot and Walt married when she was 18 and moved to Spartanburg in 1946. Dot was a loving and gifted homemaker. She and Walt raised their three children and provided temporary and welcoming havens for other family members when needed. She was active in her support for her children's school, church and extracurricular activities and could always be counted on to serve as a room mother, chaperone, booster club member, and Sunday school leader.

She is survived and will be missed by three children (Gerald and wife Linda of Moore, Sandy Hobbs and husband Steve of North Augusta, and Rickey and wife Lorraine of Pauline. She was Mama to six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. They are: Michael Forrester (Leigh) and sons Chandler and Chance of Spartanburg; Gia Atwood (Steve) and children Trace, Caleigh and Reagan of Simpsonville; Ansley Webb (Cameron) and children Colby (daughter, Marley), Chase, Cade, Casen and Brynne of Bentonville, Arkansas; Allen Hobbs (Caroline) and children Will and Lila of Charlotte, NC; Paige Forrester of Pauline and David Switzer, and his sons, John Paul and Winton, of Wellford. She is also survived by her brother Rudolph (Ann) Barnett of Wellford, a sister-in-law Phyllis Barnett of Greer, many nieces and nephews, and Vicki Habakangas, her faithful and loving sitter and best friend.

Dot loved her family and treasured all of her babies. She also loved homemaking, cooking, flowers, gardening, fishing, pictures of her grandchildren and Western movies. She was satisfied with being at home and at their lake house at Lake Greenwood and never needed grand adventures. She was stubborn and opinionated and unapologetic about both. Her greatest love was her husband Walt and most of her interest in living diminished with his passing. Dot was a faithful child of God and her greatest comfort in recent months came through her constant communication with God through prayer. She has been a member of El Bethel Methodist Church since 1950 but attended Cross Anchor and Hebron United Methodist Churches for 16 years when Walt served them as their minister.

Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.

The funeral service were Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Cross Anchor-Yarborough Chapel UMC in Cross Anchor, SC, with Rev. Jack Caldwell officiating.

The family received friends following the service at the church and burial was in the church cemetery.

The family extended their thanks o all of the sitters and companions who have helped their Mama for the last two years.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the charity of your choice or to Cross Anchor-Yarborough Chapel UMC, Hebron UMC or El Bethel UMC.
