Annetta Irene Martinson was born in Laketown Twp., Barnes Co., ND to Mike Martinson and Lula Tharaldson, the eldest of 3 daughters. (Mike was born Menelai Hopstad in Norway and changed his name to Mike Martinson when he came to the USA). She was reared in Barnes Co. on the family farm 5 miles north of Dazey, ND. Annetta was baptized at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Dazey in 1910, and confirmed there in 1925. She graduated from Dazey High School in 1927 and went on to Valley City State Teachers College and became a teacher. She taught at Laketown Twp. School until she married Leon Senff on 10 Aug 1929 in Moorhead, Clay Co., MN.
Annetta and Leon and their 2 daughters moved to Portland, Oregon in June 1941 and remained in Multnomah and Clackamas Co. the rest of their marriage. They divorced in 1955. Annetta married Jack Bernard Martin on 24 Jul 1960 in Portland. Jack died in Ilwaco, WA in Nov 1997 and is buried in Portland, Oregon. Annetta and Jack were charter members of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Portland, and also of the Lutheran Church in Ocean Park, WA, the latter they helped to build and donated the land on which is sits.
Annetta owned and operated the Hilltop Drive IN in Brightwood, Oregon and later worked at Tops Drive In in Portland for 16 years as head chef and pie baker before she retired. Annetta was a member of the Hotel-Waitress-Cook Union for many years. Annetta worked in the Vancouver, WA Shipyards during WW II from 1942-1946 as a burner, and was foreman of her shift.
Her and Jack bought, built and sold houses for many years, finally selling them all moving to Oysterville, WA and built a new home where they stayed until Jacks death. Annetta moved to Fairlawn Retirement Center in 1997, in Gresham, OR where she resided until her death on 16 Nov 2005. Her last 5 years were in Fairlawns Nursing Care Center.
She was survived by her 2 daughters, Donna L. Senff-Mata of San Jacinto, CA, and DeLores V. 'Boots'Senff-Fritz (Geary) of Gresham, OR; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great, granddaughter.
Preceding her in death were both husbands, Leon in June 2002, and Jack in Nov 1997; her parents, Mike and Lula; her sisters, Eleanor Opdahl died in Feb 2005, and Verna Mahrer died in Dec 2004.
There were no services for Annetta, she was 95 years old when she died. She is interred in a crypt #101, Level 1, in the Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham very near her parents graves.
