He began his career as a singer after winning a song contest at the Alcazar cabaret in Marseille, but soon moved to a silver screen career: he's best remembered today for playing the part of Ugolin in the 1952 version of "Manon des Sources" ("Manon of the Spring"), but was active from 1933 to 1978.
