Art collector and patron. Son of a wealthy banker of Montpellier, he donated his collection to the musée Fabre. He was a close friend to Eugène Delacroix and especially Gustave Courbet, who represented him in 1854 in the middle of his painting "La rencontre", dit "Bonjour monsieur Courbet" ("The encounter", aka "Hello Mr. Courbet").
