Mary Finlayson was born in 1815 in Scotland. Her parents were unknown Finlayson and Ann Finlayson. According to family history she had 4 siblings: Agnes, John, William, and Marshall who were born in Ontario. Her father died and Ann will remarry two more times. Her last husband was Francis Lombar. The family says none of the Lombar children were hers.
Mary Finlayson will marry Peter Belonger who was born in 1815 in Canada East (Quebec). There are many spellings of this name. On the various census records and cemetery stones it was spelled Belanger, Belonger, Belonga, Belongy, Belongey, Belonge etc.
I first found the Peter Belonger family on an 1851 census. They were living in Elmsley, Leeds, Ontario. Peter was born in 1815 in Canada East and was 36 years old. He was married to Mary who was born in 1815 in Scotland. She was 36 years old. Peter's occupation was farming. There were 7 children listed on this census. All the children were born in Canada West. Mary was 14 born on December 8, 1836; Margaret was 12 and born in 1839; Agnes was 10 and born in 1841; Janette was 8 and born in 1843; John F was 6 and born in 1845; Peter was 4 and born in 1847 and William was 2 and born in 1849.
After this census two more child will be added to the family Marshall Belonger born in 1853 in Leeds and Ann born in 1854 born in Leeds, Ontario. That was a total of 9 children that I could find.
Mary died on January 7, 1869 at the age of 53 years old. Mary's headstone can be found on what used to be the Francis Lombar family farm land. Today this family cemetery is just a small spot surrounded by pasture land. Mary also has two of her children buried here Janette Belonger Fox, John F Belonger and her grandaughter Margaret Belonger
