Allen Skelton Garrett, 71 a resident of both Horseshoe Bay, TX and Odessa, TX, passed away March 3, 2014 in Odessa.
Born December 23, 1942, in Carlsbad, NM, Allen graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Education.
Allen, however, had an indomitable entrepreneurial spirit, owning several restaurants in New Mexico before finding his true passion in the oilfield equipment business in Odessa, TX, in 1979.
In addition to countless other ventures, Allen founded G&H Sales in 1988 and, for the past twenty-one years, ran it alongside his son Patrick.
Allen touched many people, especially with his remarkable generosity: he was a man who would give you the shirt off of his back without a second thought. He loved golfing, taking his dogs out for long walks, and all of his friends at the American Legion.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, James "Pete" and Sally Garrett and by his beloved big sister, Jane Mahaffey.
He is survived by his wife, Sigrid of Horseshoe Bay, TX; his son, Patrick Garrett of Odessa, TX; his daughter, Amy Garrett Matteucci of Albuquerque; his step-daughter Carroll Hopkins and husband Ken of Dallas, TX; his step-son Justin Callendar of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren,
Seth and Zachary Garrett of San Antonio, TX, and Sadie Matteucci of Albuquerque, NM; O'Rion, Gavin, and AraBelle Callendar of Las Vegas, NV; Morgan Hopkins of Dallas, TX.; his brother James "Jimmy" Garrett of Alamogordo, NM; his sisters Katie Truman and Sherman Lynn Trice, both of Phoenix, AZ;
and many nieces and nephews who adored their "Uncle Allen."
Visitation will be held Friday, March 7, 2014, from 6-8 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Sunset Memorial Chapel, with Jimmy Braswell officiating.
