Bettye Splittorff, long time Arlington Heights, Illinois resident, 92, passed away peacefully Monday, March 3, 2014.
Born and raised in Evansville, Indiana, Bettye was a graduate of Indiana University, where she met her husband, Paul. In 1957 they moved to Arlington Heights, where they raised their family and where she was employed by Township District High School 214 until her retirement in 1981. After retiring, Bettye relocated to Hendersonville, North Carolina where she was active in various organizations including the local Hospice, The Pardee Hospital Auxiliary and the Women's Club, and was named to the "Second Wind Hall of Fame". Returning to Arlington Heights in the mid 90's, Bettye continued her community service with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Meals on Wheels and the Museum Country Store. She was a lifelong active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, P.E.O., and Daughter's of the American Revolution. She loved to travel around the world and did so throughout her life, she was a licensed pilot and you would often see her in the family seats at White Sox Park watching baseball games against the Kansas City Royals.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul William Splittorff Sr.; her parents, John V. and Edna Reckner; her sisters, Victoria and Jean; daughter, Anne Fiedler; son, Paul William Splittorff Jr.
She is survived by her son, Louis Splittorff, of Austin, Texas; daughter-in-law, Lynn Splittorff, of Blue Springs, Missouri; son-in-law, Joe Fiedler, of Barrington, Illinois;
