"TOWN OF NIAGARA — Gordon Charles Ortt, age 92, of the Town of Niagara, passed away from this life on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his residence, under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.

"He was born August 3, 1921 in Pekin, NY, the son of the late Charles and Carrie (Hillman) Ortt. A decorated WW II U.S. Army veteran, Gordon enlisted in 1942 and served his country as a Military Police officer as part of the 345th Engineer Regiment General Service, both stateside and in Italy. He received a head wound in Anzio during a regular artillery shelling by the Germans, known as "Anzio Annie." He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with one bronze star, the WW II Victory Medal, the Honorable Service Lapel Button, the Sharpshooter Badge and the Carbine Bar. He was honorably discharged as a Cpl. in 1946.

"He was a Mechanic and Truck Driver by trade. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix. In his younger years he enjoyed square dancing and was an avid hunter until the age of 86. He enjoyed bingo and was friends with many of his fellow bingo players at Active Hose Fire Hall. Gordon was often found in his garden growing vegetables for canning. He really enjoyed being outdoors in the sun.

He is survived by his wife, * * *. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on April 9, 2014. He is also survived by his children; * * *, his grandchildren; [his siblings], * * *. Also survived by several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, John Ortt; a sister, Bertha Roberts; and three brothers, Donald, Jim and Ron Ortt.
