James Leroy "Jim" Abel, 77, of Perry, KS., died March 7, 2014 at the St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. He was born December 2, 1936 in Perry, KS., the son of Roy Crawford and Ada Mae King Abel. Jim was a 1954 graduate of Perry Rural High School. He worked for 45 years for the Kansas Department of Transportation as an Engineer technician, retiring at 62 years old. He was a lifetime member of the Perry United Methodist Church, a member of the Perry Masonic Lodge #415, and a member of the Scottish Rite bodies in Topeka. He was a Boy Scout leader, a Tball Coach, He served as the mayor of Perry from 1979 to 1991, and also served 15 to 20 years on the Perry City Council, and a proud member of the NRA. He Married Sally Sue Gaines at Peabody, KS., on March 22, 1964, She survives of the home. Other Survivors include one son, Troy (Sarah) Abel of Topeka, KS., one daughter Kimberly Kay Robb, Perry, KS., two sisters, Marlene Dewey, Perry, KS., and Dorothy Evans, Lodi, CA. Three grandchildren, Trent and Hayden Robb, Perry, KS., and Hannah Abel, Topeka. Memorials services will be 10:00AM Thursday, March 13 at the Perry United Methodist Church, Inurnment services will be at the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
