Mr. Delsman was born to Ervin Joseph and Caroline Ann Delsman in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, on Father's Day, June 18, 1933. He attended McKinley Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, and Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, WI. For awhile after high school, Mr. Delsman worked as a steel cutter on the Manitowoc Shipyards before beginning his teacher training at Manitowoc County Normal. Upon graduation, he worked as a teacher in Newton, Wisconsin, in a one-room schoolhouse. He served his country overseas. In 1959, he married Kathleen Mary Peterson at Holy Innocence Church in Manitowoc and later moved to Flint, Michigan.
In 1959, Mr. Delsman began working in the Westwood Heights School District, first as an art and English teacher and later, upon completing his Master's Degree in 1966 from Eastern Michigan University, as an elementary school principal. He was an active member of the Westwood Heights School District regularly attending school board meetings as well as organizing and participating in sundry school functions. Along with his wife, Mr. Delsman was an avid bowler and they participated in many league tournaments. He was also an active member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Community and for over fifteen years gave thanks and praise to the Lord by singing in the choir. For years he brought laughter and joy to the children of the Whaley Children's Center by volunteering as a performer and storyteller.

His first passion was, however, theatre, and he made a name for himself in the Flint Community Players where he performed in and directed over fifty shows. He was also a pillar of The New Vic Supper Theatre family and a frequent guest actor at The Flint Youth Theatre. He performed at Buckham Alley Theatre and made a number of commercials and voice-overs. For those of you who knew him in this capacity, you were his strength against adversity and you allowed his spirit to soar.

Foremost of the many joys in Erv's life were his beloved children and grandchildren who mourn his passing, Debbie of Arizona and Eric Jon, residing in Germany with Lucie Stranska and their children; Anja Kathleen, Edward James and Christian Alexander. He is further survived in Wisconsin by his sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Richard Pitsch, their children; Carole, Kay, Mary, Jim, and Jake. He is also survived by John and Judy Peterson, Owen Peterson, Roger Foerg, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family especially wishes to thank the tireless efforts and countless acts of kindness of his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Rosemary Peterson and their children Matthew, Tina, Jennifer and Dave.
Erv was preceded in death by his father, Ervin Joseph, in 1939, his wife, Kathleen Mary, in 1974, his mother, Caroline, in 1977, and by three baby girls; Dawn Marie, Denise Marie and Infant Delsman.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the American Lung Association or the Whaley Children's Center. In lieu of a donation, say a prayer, remember his life joyfully, and see a show in your local theatre.
