REV. JOHN HARWOOD. At Ustick, township of Clyde, Carroll county, Illinois, died, on the 9lh of November last, Rey. John Harwood. He was aged seventy-three years and will be remembered by many of the older residents of Saratoga, Washington and Schenectady counties. The deceased was born in England and came to America about the year 1830. Shortly afterwards he settled at Malta Ridge in this county, and for three years was engaged, with two others, as a local preacher on the Saratoga circuit- About the year 1842-'43 he officiated in the capacity of station preacher at Schenectady. About '48 and '49 he entered the Eastern Cambridge circuit, and in '51 and '52 was recognized as on the New London, Columbia county, circuit. At this time he ceased to perform the duties regularly and moved to Western Virginia. From the latter State he removed to Ohio, where his widow and five children now reside.— About one year since he proceeded to Illinois, and subsequently to Ustick, in that State, where he was employed by Rev. W. H. Tibbits, presiding elder of the Freeport district, and had just entered again upon his ministerial duties. On the third Sabbath after he had entered his new field of labor the congregation had assembled, as usual, when the sad intelligence was communicated that the venerable pastor had, after a brief illness, passed away to the presence of his Maker, in whose cause he had devoted his life. The deceased was the father of Mrs. M.W. Hillman of Wilton, in this county, and Rev. T. W. Harwood of Whitehall, Washington county.
