Chief Warrant Officer Dennis Hay was killed on August 29th, 2005 when his OH-58D Kiowa helicopter came under small arms attack near Tal Afar, Iraq. He was shot by small arms fire and the co-pilot was also wounded. Despite his injury Dennis was able to help the co-pilot land the aircraft. The co-pilot survived his wounds. Dennis was an outstanding pilot, he was Pilot in Command rated, was a graduate of the instructor course, and was selected to move to TF160 when he returned from this deployment.

Prior to becoming an Army helicopter pilot, Dennis served in the Air Force for eight years as a Ranger TACP and then as a Pararescueman.
