Dr. L. S. Davis, 64, Dentist of North, Dies
Dr. Legare S. Davis, 64-year-old North dentist, died at 8:10 Saturday morning at his home. He was in declining health a year.
Doctor Davis was born in Aiken County, son of the late Jerome M. and Anna Salley Davis. He lived at North the past 62 years. He has practiced in North since 1911 after graduation from the Atlanta Dental College. He was a member of the Coastal, State, and American Dental Associations and of the North Methodist Church, North Masonic Lodge No 119, Nelson-Bass American Legion Post and the Wildlife Federation. For 25 years he was connected with the Boy Scout movement, as chairman of a troop committee.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Price Davis, one daughter, Miss Marianna Davis of North and the University of South Carolina; his stepmother, Mrs. Celeste Salley Davis of North; one sister, Mrs. E. V. Thatcher of Charleston; one brother, Dr. J. McMahan Davis of Dublin, Ga, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5 o'clock this afternoon at the graveside in Penn Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Paul McWhirter and the Rev H. D. Anderson. The body will remain at the Culler Funeral Home until the services.
Active pallbearers will be: O. C. Jones, Harold Reed, George Wolfe Salley, M. E. Livingston, J. W. Pooser, A. Z. Culler, M. D. Fogle and W. O. Cofer.
