Son of Henry Rogers and Mary E. Walters, husband of Mary J. Fleming, whom he married on April 21, 1879 in Brooklyn, New York, and father of George H.(married Louetta Koerner), Helen Julia "Nell" (married William Loughlin), Mary Cecelia "Mayme" (married Edward Warden), John Frances (married Jane M. Hyzer), Isabella C. (married Howard Chester Coleman) and William Thomas Rogers (married Bertha M. Kelly). Grandson of Jacob Rogers and Elizabeth Bunce.

In 1860, Alonzo Rodgers, aged 20, a clerk, was living in New York, New York in the home of his parents, Henry Rodgers, aged 60, who worked in a cooperage, and Mary Rodgers, aged 52, with siblings, George Rodgers, aged 18, a clerk, and Helen Rodgers, aged 16. Also in the household were Henry Richardson, aged 7, John Turner, aged 50, a plumber, born in England, and Clara Turner, aged 41.

In 1875, Alonzo F. Rogers, aged 35, born in Brooklyn, was living in Brooklyn, New York, in the home of his widowed mother, Mary E. Rogers, aged 69, born in New Jersey, and sister, Helen T. Rogers, aged 30, born in Brooklyn.

In 1880, Alonzo Rogers, aged 44, a clerk, was living in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife, Mary Rogers, aged 22.

Obituary - Alonzo Rogers, for 36 years a resident of Patchogue, died at his home, Academy Street, Monday morning. Born in New York City, September 13, 1839, the deceased moved to Patchogue in 1888, where he took up farming. He is survived by his widow, Mary Rogers, three sons, Village Trustee George H., Frank and William T.; and three daughters, Mrs. William Loughlin, Mrs. Isabelle Coleman and Mrs. Mayme Warden. All the children except Mrs. Warden who resides in Roosevelt, are residents of Patchogue. Deceased joined the Fifth N.Y. State Regiment, known as Duryea's Zouaves and served throughout the Civil War. At the second Battle of Bull Run his left hip was shot away and he remained lying on the battlefield three days before being rescued. In 1871, he left New Bedford, Mass., on a whaling voyage to the South Indian Ocean. In company with two Portuguese sailors deceased went ashore on Desolation Island to procure water. For some unknown reason their ship sailed away without them. It was nine months before they were rescued by another ship, only to learn that their own ship had been lost with all hands, in a storm, after deserting them. On his third trip around the world the deceased happened to be at Kimberly, South Africa, when diamonds were discovered there. Funeral services were held Wednesday, interment followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Also - Alonzo Rogers Dead - Patchogue, L.I., March 18 - Alonzo Rogers, a member of Duryea's Fifth Zouaves, "The Red-Legged Devils" of Civil War fame, and fighter in the Battle of Bull Run, died at his home here yesterday at the age of 84. Mr. Rogers was born in Manhattan. He had lived in Patchogue since 1888. He is survived by three sons, George H., J. Frank and William T. Rogers, and three daughters, Mrs. William J. Loughlin, Mrs. Howard Coleman, and Mrs. Edward Warden of Roosevelt, Long Island.
