Mrs. Mattis was born March 13, 1953, in Danville, a daughter of Charlotte "Ann" and Richard Harold Carpenter.
She married Charles Dean Mattis Jr. on June 5, 1972. He survives.
Survivors also include a son, Chip Mattis of St. Joseph; two daughters, Jamie DeVore and Amanda Mattis, both of Danville; and two step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Mrs. Mattis graduated from Danville High School in 1971, and the University of Illinois in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in education. She was a quote administrator at CCL for 22 years and a sales manager at Exal Corp. in Youngstown, Ohio, for nine years.
She was a member of the ministry team at New Life Christian Center and played the piano and keyboard for the praise and worship team at the church for 25 years.
She enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals and UI sports and was involved in the Kiwanis, Habitat for Humanity and Danville Symphony Orchestra. She played the violin and provided private piano lessons for nearly 15 years.
