Clarice Joanne Jones, 78, of Mebane, NC, formerly of Savanna, IL, Aurora, IL, Batavia, IL and Pekin, IL, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC.
She was born September 12, 1927 in Pekin, IL, the daughter of John and Ruby (Lutz) Nicke. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, John and Viola Nickie, because her mother died shortly after childbirth.
She worked at McClullins Department Store in Pekin, IL, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Jones. They were married on April 4, 1950 while he was in the army, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington.
They moved to Aurora, IL in 1951 and Batavia, IL in 1956. She was employed at Campana Corporation in Batavia for three years.
Clarice loved serving the Lord. She served as a Good News Club leader in her neighborhood in Batavia and her home in Savanna. Many children were lead to the Lord because of her ministry. She was also an Awana leader, Sunday school teacher, and directed many children's Christmas programs. She loved singing at church as a soloist and with her family singing group.
One of her favorite hobbies was arranging flower bouquets for church from her personal flower garden.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph H. Jones of Mebane, NC; two sons, Stewart (Mary Rose) Jones of Huntington, MA and John Jones of St. Paul, MN; two daughters, Wanda (Dan) Nelson of Aurora, IL and Shirley (Wyman) Woods of Mebane, NC; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt and uncle who raised her; brother, Donald Nicke; sister/cousin, Shirley Case; and daughter, Pamela Jones (2004).
A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Lincoln Memorial Park, Rt. 30 and Rt. 34 in Aurora (898-6230) with Pastor Scott Poling officiating.
