Edward Conrad Michels passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Concordia Life Care Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Ed was born on December 21, 1923, in Salina, Kansas, son of Harry and Julia Michels.

The Michels relocated to Vernon, where Ed grew up and graduated from Vernon High School in 1941. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Ed attended Texas A&M University and graduated with high honors in 1949 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Upon graduation, Ed began his career with Continental Oil Company where he worked until 1974. His expertise with pipeline operations took him to many interesting locations in the U.S. and overseas. He especially enjoyed his ex-patriot assignment in London, England.

After retiring from Conoco in 1974, Ed began a second career with Gulf Interstate Engineering in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was instrumental in the building of the Alyeska Pipeline. Ed returned to Vernon in 1981 where he was very involved in the local community. He also continued to provide professional consulting expertise to the oil and gas industry for many years.

Ed enjoyed overseeing the family farm in Lockett, gardening, dove hunting, and fishing in Alaska. Being a proud "Texas Aggie", Ed was an active alumna and enthusiastically supported Texas A&M University. He loved attending their football games and regardless of the score, would proclaim that the band always won.

Ed is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mozelle Paschall Michels and siblings, Dorothy Michels Sever, Leroy Michels, and Bernice Michels Frye.

As his wife's health declined, Ed put on a new hat and became her primary care provider in her later years. Ed is survived by his children, Dr. Clay C. Michels of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Sue Conway of Houston; and three granddaughters, Olivia Michels of Edmond and Kelly and Caroline Conway of Houston.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 6, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7 at Sullivan Funeral Home with the Rev. James A. Beverley officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310.
