First husband of Antje Levie, my grandmother's youngest sister.

Joseph lost everything in the Depression, including his two houses. He was so angry when this happened he refused to work again. Piece by piece his things were repossessed, his electricity was turned off, etc. Antje did what she could to make money, as she was a talented seamstress, but it was not enough.

Their youngest son moved out and lived in the YMCA and their youngest child, their daughter Rita, left at 21 to get out of the house; she married a man who abused her. The other children were already out of the home.
