Joseph Willis DeHaas, 91, of 249 McClure Street, DuBois, died February 2 at Christ the King Manor, DuBois. He was born December 25, 1911 in St. Marys, son of Fountain Cryder DeHaas and Ethel Rebecca Duffy. He married Arlene Buc ksbee DeHaas, who survives. Also surviving is a sister, Virginia Knecht of Waynesboro, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parent s, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Miller DeHaas;
three brothers, Cryder, Hudson and Thomas DeHaas; and two sisters, Kathryn Li on and, in infancy, Frances DeHaas. Mr. DeHaas was a lifetime member of BPOE #437, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII. He enjoyed, golf, bridge, hunting, fishing and bowling. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, and had been a resident of DuBois for 20 years. He was employed with Stackpole Carbon in St. Marys for 31 years and at Miller Hardware in St. Marys. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School. A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Willis DeHaas will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, DuBois, with Msgr. Richard Siefer officiating. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery. Visitation is at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc. tonight from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A scriptural wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
