GALESBURG - Clarence E. "Tack" Fairow, 74, of 998 N. Farnham died at 1:49 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Davenport, Iowa, to Irving and Elizabeth C. Childs Fairow.
Surviving are one brother, Lorn (and Ginny) of Davenport; and three nephews and two nieces with whom he had made his home, John (and Debbie) Fairow of East Peoria, Richard Fairow, Darin (and Melissa) Fairow, Barbara (and Jeffrey) Rote and Lela Fairow, all of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A Korean War and Vietnam War veteran, he served in the Navy for 20 years and attained the rank of bosun's mate first class. He retired in 1970. He was credited with writing the manual for transferring cargo ship to ship, which is still in use by the Navy today.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2257 and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Presley will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Watson Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Cremation will be accorded.
