Mrs. Kathleen Lenora Simmons Amber, 85, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, March 14, 2014 in Cassville, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.

Kathleen entered this life on April 7, 1928 in Macon, Illinois, to the union of the late Harry and Beulah (Renfro) Stevens. Her formative years were spent in Detroit, Michigan. She moved to Jasper County Missouri in 1944 and has resided in Joplin since 1980. Besides being a devoted homemaker, she drove a school bus for the Carl Junction School District and was employed by the former Oak Hill Hospital in Joplin for ten years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a wonderful cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Simmons; two grandsons, Rick Simmons and Forrest Fisher; and three sisters, Betty, Harriett and Alice.

Kathleen is survived by two sons, Max Simmons and wife, Karen, of Lamar, Missouri and Michael Simmons of Mount Pleasant, Texas; three daughters, Rita Fisher of Joplin, Missouri, Barbara Haynes and husband, Jim, also of Joplin and Peggy Carrozzo and husband, Marty, of Cassville, Missouri; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers, Bill and Walter Stevens of Pawnee, Illinois and Jim Stevens of Casper, Wyoming; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Fasken Cemetery east of Carthage with Pastor Mark Trunbough officiating. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. On-line condolences may be sent to the family through our website www.thornhilldillon.com.
