Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Friday, September 24, 1948, page 2:
  Fred Frederick Pfeiffer of 408 St. Louis street, a retired owner of the Pfeiffer hotel which he operated from 1904 to 1925, died Thursday at 6:40 p.m. at St. Joseph hospital in Alton of complications following a recent illness. He was a lifelong resident of this city.
  He was born Oct. 6, 1871, and had attained the age of 76 years, 11 months and 17 days. He was the son of the late Jacob and Wilhemina Pfeiffer. He was married to Miss Mary Sophia Blixen, June 14, 1899, at Eden Evangelical church. She survives him.
  Also surviving are three sons, Arthur E. of this city, Wilbur H. of Dayton, Ohio, and Elmer W. of Larchmont, N.Y.; one brother, William T. Pfeiffer of this city, and three grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
  He was a member of Edwardsville lodge 99 A.F. & A.M., RAM lodge 146, Scottish Rite, Consistory Shrine of East St. Louis, Eastern Star Chapter 667, local Shrine club, Eden Evangelical church, Eden Brotherhood and was past president of the church council. He was also a member of the Edwardsville Municipal band, and had been a member of various musical organizations for the past 52 years.
  Friends may call at the Lesley Marks funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening until 12 o'clock noon Sunday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until 2 o'clock when services will be held with the Rev. H.J. Bredehoeft officiating.
  Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Pallbearers were Christ L. Jahns, Oscar Dornseif, Chester L. Brockmeier, Arthur W. Ferreira, Harold E. Gunter and G.G. Pape.
