Charles (Bud) Albert Abraham, 89, of Michigan City passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Anthony Hospital Hospice.

Charles was born in Michigan City, Ind., on Jan. 9, 1925, to Jacob and Jennie (Nick) Abraham. He married Betty Lou Stine on March 25, 1948, in Michigan City, where they subsequently settled.

Charles worked at various positions at Michigan City Area Schools including director of building and grounds, assistant principal at Krueger and Rogers, assistant superintendent and served as superintendent from 1981-84. He also taught part-time at Purdue North Central. Charles was a proud WWII veteran. He retired in 1987.

He enjoyed reading, camping, fishing, swimming and hiking. He loved spending his retirement time in Lexington, Ind., where he enjoyed farming, gardening and enjoying time with friends and relatives. Charles was a good husband, father, teacher and friend to everyone he met.

Surviving are daughter, Jean Ewing of Michigan City; two sons, Jacob (Mike) Abraham, Michigan City, and Dr. John (Khadija) Abraham of Edmonton, Alberta; one sister, Lila Abraham-Ivey of Michigan City; one sister-in-law, Pauline Habhab-Abraham, South Bend, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, Erin (Stacy) Hynek, Jacob Abraham, Chrissie Abraham, Charles Abraham, Sarah (Tyler) Tarpley, Jeanann Abraham, Nour Abraham, Ibrahim Abraham, Malak Abraham and Haneen Abraham; four great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Joshua and Lucy Hynek, and Edward Tarpley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Jennie (Nick) Abraham; his wife, Betty Lou (Stine) Abraham; brothers, Hassen, Allie, Gene, Jacob (John); and sister, Madeline Abraham-Habhab.

Visitation for Charles will be held from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Islamic Center of Michigan City, 1606 N. 500 East.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Islamic Center of Michigan City with Sheikh Fadal officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Islamic Center of Michigan City or St. Anthony Hospice.
