U.S. Congressman. Educated at Oberlin College Ohio, he taught school and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1856 and commenced to practice law in Attica, New York. He was Attica Justice of the Peace, (1854-60), a member of the board of supervisors of Wyoming County, (1869-71, 73-75) and was successful in the banking business. In 1877, he elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fifth Congress, serving until 1879. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his banking interest and operated farming lands in his vicinity until his death at age 73.
