U.S. Congressman. By 1835 he became a successful inventor and manufacturer of reapers, mowers and binders. Entering politics, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses, serving (1879-83). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former pursuits, served as president of the village of Hoosick Falls, New York, until his death from pneumonia.
