Charles E. Prater of Clinton, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Tennova Residential Hospice in Halls, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nancy Prater; brothers, Frank, Chester, Albert and Ulis; sisters, Martha and Reva. Charlie is survived by his wife, Gracie Jean (Billie); son, John J. Prater (Jay); grandchildren, Dylan, Ben, Gracey and Tate, all of Signal Mountain, TN; sister, Maggie Sharp; niece, Jeannie Prater; sisters in-law, Helen Davenport, JoAnn and husband Gary Carrington; nephew, Matt Carrington; niece, Blake and husband Taylor Mayes, children, Ivey and Anna Patton.

Charlie was in the National Guard and joined the Army to serve his country in the Korean War as a front line medic. In 1954, Charlie and Billie moved to Clinton and started their business, Miller Florist, and worked together at the Market Street location for twenty four years and decided to move their business to their home on Eagle Bend Road, Praters Wholesale Florist, and worked together till Charlie's last days. Charlie was a member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Preston Shephard and staff, as well as the staff at Tennova Hospice who cared for Charlie in his last days while paying attention to preserving his sense of dignity.

Special friends include Helen Gilliam, Jack Osborne, Dewey Roop, Kathy Taylor, Tom and Ann Thacker. "We are thankful for your love throughout the years."

There will be a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette, TN on Tuesday, March 25th at 1:30PM. Dr. Mike Thompson officiating. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.holleygamblefh.com
