BIOGRAPHY
Based on research in We Came In Chains by Lavoris Gail Alexander Maiden

Nathan was a 1st generation U.S. Slave born in North Carolina to African parents (according to 1870 census report). He had a least one brother: Jack. According to the minutes of Sand Ridge Baptist Church Nathan also had a sister named Ann.

Nathan married Anice between 1828 and 1830. They had eight children together:
John (1830), Willis (1832), Nelson (1834), William (1835), York (1840), Thomas (1842), George (1843), and Robert (1849)

All children were born in North Carolina with the exception of Robert who was born in Georgia.

21 Jan 1860 - J.R. Horne, Moderator. In conference with colored members. Nathan Baskin reported sister Ann Baskin with a charge of contempt and also Neley Baskin with charge of adultery. Moses Baskin, Nathan Baskin and Nathan Jackson aptd. Committee to “wate on” them.
