BARNETT, Kenneth Shade 75, of Naples Florida died on Monday March 17, 2014. Born near Hazard, KY, he was recruited at the age of 18 to play basketball for the University of Dayton. After a tour with the Army in Santiago, Chile and Washington, DC, he returned to Dayton,Ohio where he worked for the US Government as a Senior Computer Systems Analyst at the Defense Electronics Supply Center. When that base closed in 1996, he moved with his job to Defense Supply Center Columbus, Ohio. He retired after 40+ years of federal service, and continued his career for 10 more years at the same facility as a contractor with Northrup-Grumman. Upon official retirement, he and his longtime partner, Jean Moran, moved in 2011 to sunny Naples, Florida. All his adult life Kenneth was an avid golfer, loved all spectator sports, boating, and the excitement of the horse track. Later in life, traveling the world brought him great pleasure. A true gastronome, he loved gourmet food. He made friends easily because of his wry sense of humor, generosity, quick wit, intellect, and gregarious nature. Kenneth was proceeded in death by his first wife, Polly Lauterbach, and his sister Sharon Barnett. He will be deeply missed and is survived by a loving family: his only child, Lisa Barnett; his "Lifetime-Sweetheart", Jean Moran and her mother, Sarah Deets; Robynn, Tim, Taylor, Devon and Hayley Douthit; Sybil, Paul, Shea, Danny, and Sullivan Fleming; his brother, Robert "Mickey" Spurgeon; Aunt Jean Combs; Aunt Louise (Homer) Gayheart, Uncle Bob (Gat) Combs; and many cousins including Jim Barnett, Brenda Barnett, and Damian Barnett. A private gathering to celebrate Kenneth's wonderful life will be held at a future date. Please consider a gift in Kenneth's name to fund Glioblastoma research at the Miami Neurosurgical Institute, 7600 SW 57th Ave Suite 309 South Miami, FL 33143.
