Born Aug. 12, 1929 in Fairfield, he was the son of the late Jacob Harry and Helen (Sanders) Pecher.
Joe was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield. He was an accomplished fiddle player and played with various local bands through the years, the highlight of his playing days was to play with the famous Bill Monroe at the Blue Grass Festival in Fairfield in 1992. Joe enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, watching birds and rooting for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. He retired from PennDOT in 1992 after 26 years of service; prior to that he had worked at the former Rock Top Club in Cashtown and Charnita Development in Fairfield. In his later years Joe enjoyed working outdoors trimming fruit trees and helping at harvest time with Fairfield fruit growers.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lottie D. (Zellers) Pecher; three daughters, Denice M. Sprankle and husband Allen of Orrtanna, Tina M. Elicker of Orrtanna, and Pam A. Benner and husband Dave of Fairfield; a son, Joe C. Pecher and wife Gina of Fairfield; nine grandchildren, Chris Sprankle and wife Marcie, Chad Sprankle and friend Ashley, Michael Elicker and fianc Terra, David Benner and wife Keyra, Kyle Benner and wife Kelli, Marie, Teresa, Joey and Elly Pecher; two great grandsons, Luke Sprankle and Aaron Benner; two brothers, George Pecher and wife Dottie and Eugene Pecher both of Fairfield; two sisters, Mary Hutinet of Monterey Park, Calif. and Teresa Rodgers of Fairfield, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Paul, Henry and Alfonso Pecher, and his sister, Ann Lochbaum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Fairfield.
