RHETT, ROBERT GOODWIN.—Son of A. Moore and Martha Goodwyn Rhett.

Born March 25, 1862, at Columbia, South Carolina. Of English descent. Attended Porter Academy, the Episcopal High School of Virginia, and graduated from University of Virginia with degree of M. A.; then in law department in 1884 with degree of Bachelor of Law. Married Miss Helen Smith, daughter of W. B. Whaley, November 15, 1888. Elected president of South Carolina Loan and Trust Company in 1896, and since November, 1899, president of Peoples National Bank. Also president of Land Pebble Phosphate Company and four building and loan associations. Member of firm of D. Middleton & Company, fire insurance agents. Treasurer and director of Chattanooga, Augusta and Charleston Railroad Company. Director of Bank of Barnwell, Enterprise Bank of Laurens. Charleston Importing and Export Company, Johnston & Crews Company, Charleston Dry Goods Company, Mutual Carpet Company, Smith Mclver and Company, Granby Cotton Mills, Columbia, Courtenay Manufacturing Company, Newry, South Carolina, Alderman two terms, and mayor pro tem one term. Practicing law as member of firm Trenholm, Rhett, Miller & Whaley.
