U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, practiced in Albany, New York and was Sheriff of Albany County, (1831-34). In 1837, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed by President Polk collector of customs at Albany, New York and served until his death at age 55.
