Adrian E. Kidwell, 79, a retired U.S. Park Service motorcycle police officer and coach of youth sports in Fairfax County, died Jan. 16 of cancer at the Fairfax Station home of his daughter.

He was born in Washington, one of 10 children. He graduated from the old Central High School and entered the Army in 1943. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, in the Pacific theater and in Tokyo.

Mr. Kidwell served in the Park Police from 1954 to 1974.

During the 1950s and 1960s, he coached youth sports in Falls Church and Alexandria. He coached baseball, cross country and golf at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria from 1976 to 1990.

His wife, Regina J. McCabe Kidwell, whom he married in 1951, died in 1994.

Survivors include his children, MaryBeth Brown of Fairfax Station, Michael Kidwell of Springfield and Patrick Kidwell of Marshall, Va.; two sisters, Helen Kane of Woodbridge and Mary Marrazzo of Fairfax; and 11 grandchildren.
