POCAHONTAS - Mrs. Elsie Balaun, 80, died Sunday at Pocahontas Community Hospital. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial at Corpus Christi Cemetery. The Rev. John Cain, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Wesley, and a nephew of Mrs. Balaun, and Monsignor Lawrence J. Hoffman, pastor of Resurrection Parish, Pocahontas, concelebrated the mass of the resurrection. Powers Funeral Home was in charge.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mina Cain, Sioux Falls, S.D., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Elsie Murphy was born and educated at Le Mars. She then attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City. She married Leo Brauch in 1929 at Le Mars. Mr. Brauch died in 1931.
In 1932, she married W. J. Balaun at Fort Dodge*. Mrs. Balaun was employed in the office of the Capital Tobacco Corporation and also at Brady Transfer Company in Fort Dodge.
In 1949, they move to Missoula, Mont., where Mrs. Balaun worked as a clerk in a department store.
Mr. Balaun died in Missoula in 1964. Mrs. Balaun returned to Iowa and settled in Pocahontas in 1965. She was employed for a time in the law offices of J. Desmond Crotty.
