Mrs. Sophia Caroline Beckman, one of Lodi's most beloved residents passed away at the age of 90 years early yesterday morning in a local rest home. She had been in failing health for a number of years.
Mrs. Beckman had lived in Lodi since 1881, when she and her husband, the late William H. Beckman, settled on the ranch of the late George Beckman.
Her husband, a well remembered rancher of this district, passed away when he was 45 years old.
Born in Tuolumne
Mrs. Beckman was born July 17, 1863, in Gold Springs, near Columbia in Tuolumne county, the daughter of the late Francis and Minna Blass, pioneer gold miners and settlers of the area.

As a young woman, Mrs. Beckman was an excellent shot with a pistol, which she carried most of the time, for hunting and target shooting.
