Mitylene Bowron Phillips was born on January 20, 1921 in Birmingham, Alabama and passed away on March 26, 2014 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

She was predeceased by Sam H. Phillips, Sr., her loving husband of 62 years.

Mittie is perhaps best remembered as a warm and entertaining hostess, avid traveler, and active volunteer. She and Sam were founding members of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. She also was Secretary, Educational Secretary, and Secretary-at-Large of the Diocesan Church Periodical Club. Mittie was an active member of both the Birmingham and Fort Smith Junior Leagues. She volunteered as a Gray Lady at Camp Chaffee and also served on the boards of the Fort Smith Broadway Theater and the Rosalie Tilles Children's Home.

Memorial service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. Inurnment of ashes will be private. Cremation is under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.

She is survived by three daughters, Caroline Kent of Judsonia, Arkansas, Stuart Phillips of Austin, Texas, and Mitylene Mahar of Nacogdoches, Texas; a son, Sam H. Phillips Jr. of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren, S. Bowron Phillips, Anna Phillips Dennis, Stuart Cooper Godin, W. Michael Cooper, Hope Kent Langley, Summer Kent Sentell, Ryan L. Mahar and Alex C. Mahar, and several great-grandchildren.
