After graduating in 1939, Norma became a carhop at Sivil's, one of the most noted drive-ins of its time, and one of the first in Dallas. Competition was fierce for these "car hostess" jobs, where young ladies were selected for prettiness, brains and personality.
Norma married Fred Abood in 1942, her husband of 29 years until his death in 1971. Having been a loving wife, mother and homemaker during that time, after his death she completed coursework at Draughon's business college and landed a clerical job at the Environmental Protection Agency in Dallas somewhere between 1970 and 1972. She retired in 1989 after many years of service.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe Boren, and her son Mike Abood.
She is survived by her daughter, Patti Forsness of Garland; daughter-in-law Sharon Abood of Lewisville; grandson Jess Forsness and wife Kristin of Alpharetta, Georgia; grandson Jeff Abood of Dallas; granddaughter Mechelle Abood of Leonard; and granddaughter Tabitha Krodle and husband Kevin of Caddo Mills; 8 great-grandchildren: Curry Murphy of Leonard; Dillon Worley of Leonard; Megan Reagan of Sulphur Springs; Brandi Reagan of Greenville; Krystal Reagan of Caddo Mills; Michael Reagan of Caddo Mills; Keely Abood of Commerce; Dillan Krodle of Celeste; and 4 great-great grandchildren: Russell Murphy of Leonard; Cadence Cook of Commerce; Bentley Way of Sulphur Springs and Aubrey Thornton of Greenville.
Norma is also survived by two sisters: Patsy Swindell of Carrollton and Alma Doyle of McKinney in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
In addition to her family, Norma's faith and church family meant everything to her. She was known and described as generous, kind and classy. She had a great sense of humor, and loved helping people.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Living Church of God, PO Box 3810, Charlotte NC 28227 (or http://www.lcg.org/donations.shtml) or Vitas Hospice.
