Obituary information contributed by Melinda Carpenter (49479984) on 9-14-19:
Mrs. W. A. Long, a well known and highly respected woman of Byesville, met with a horrible accident at her home Thanksgiving morning which resulted in her death about 3:30 o'clock in the afternoon after suffering untold agony. While standing before an open grate fire in the morning her clothing caught fire and before the flames could be extinguished every bit of her clothing except a belt and her shoes were burned off her body. She was alone at the time except her little ten year old daughter who quickly called her brother, Irwin Long, ran to his mother's assistance but could do very little towards relieving her sufferings and she lingered until about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. Long was out hunting at the time near Claysville and word was sent to him. A husband, one son, the three daughters are left to mourn her death.
