Calvin Britton was born on December 26, 1923, in Clay County, Ky., to Thomas Lambert and Nell Hignite Britton. He went home to his Lord and a joyous reunion with loved ones on April 15, 2007, in his home in Richmond, Ky. He is survived by: four devoted daughters, Lynn Shearon, Jo Hatton, Jan Clay Britton and Kathy Cross, and a beloved son-in-law, Bryan Cross. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Sarah Hatton, Amy Reece (Eric) Robertson, Laura Hatton, Adrian Reece, Rob (Sharon) Hatton, Amy Jo Hatton, Ashley Cross (Gibson) Wilkinson, and Patrick Cross, who will miss his laughter and his guidance, as will his three great-grandchildren, Patrick, Cassidy and Owen Wilkinson. He is also survived by his precious sister, Ruth Britton Mobley, and “a bunch” of nieces and nephews. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jessie Britton Walters and Elizabeth Britton Hatton, two brothers, Luster Britton and Cecil Britton, and, in June of 2000, the love of his life and wife of fifty-eight years, Maxine Combs Britton. He was a devoted Gideon, a 32nd-degree Mason, and a man who loved horses. In 1950, Calvin and Maxine founded Britton Funeral Home with an eye toward a mission and a ministry to people in pain as much as a business — a dedication that has never faltered. Theirs was a life well-lived; they loved their Lord and they loved people. Visitation will be in the Britton Funeral Home chapel in Manchester, Ky., Tuesday, April 17, at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. Internment will be in Memorial Gardens in Manchester.
