James is the son of David Anderson Crews & Sarah Brown. He married first to Victoria R. Arnold on the 6th of April 1886 in Carroll Co., Tennessee. Victoria is buried at Ephesus Cemetery near Vale in Carroll County. Legend has been handed down that James would not be buried next to Victoria at Ephesus because when they dug her grave they struck water. James married second to Molly Lindsey on 21 May 1919 in Carroll Co., Tennessee. Molly is buried at the Hollywood Cemetery in Madison Co., Tennessee.
James was short in stature which earned him the nickname of Scrub. David & Sarah are buried at Ephesus Cemetery.
