William Bruce Mills, Sr, 81, of Englewood, traveled the journey home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2014, from Life Care Center in Athens. A native of Murphy, N. Carolina, and resident of Englewood for the past 43 years, he was a son of the late Christopher Columbus Mills and Donna Garrett Mills. William was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Englewood, TN where he also belonged to the Manila Masonic Lodge #633. He spent most of his career as a licensed journeyman electrician through the IBEW 760 in which he traveled and worked in several states.

He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War Conflict. He then joined the Army National Guard and worked at the McMinn County National Guard Armory until returning to TVA.

William worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority off and on for thirty years at each of their Power Houses including Watts Bar Nuclear Plant until his retirement.

William loved the outdoors and he especially enjoyed fishing for trout and salmon as well as traveling with his wife, Barbara in their RV across Alaska and the western United States. They also spent several summers volunteering as Camp Hosts at Indian Boundary in the Tellico Mountains.

William really loved working on his farm and driving his tractor, plowing his fields, and planting and harvesting his prize garden.

He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Barbara Jean Mills, brothers, Christopher, Clinton, Frank, and Hoover Mills; sisters, Cleo Mills, Christine O'Dell, Marie Graves, Roma Gaddis, Thelma Graves, Louella Graves, and Stella O'Dell.

Survivors include one sister, Jean Dockery and husband Mark; two sisters-in-laws, Georgia Mills, Springfield, OH and Elizabeth Mills, Englewood, TN; several nieces and nephews; his loving children which include; two daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey and Mike Cleveland of Sweetwater, and Lisa and Jimmy Duggan of Etowah; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Cindy Mills of Decatur, Chris Mills of Coker Creek, Tom and Holly Mills of Etowah, and Robert and Pam Mills of Etowah; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Nick Mills and wife Andrea of Cleveland, Capt. Brandon Mills, USMC and wife Nora of Swansboro, NC; Bryan Gaston and wife Lara of Oklahoma City, Ok., Andrew Gaston and fiancée Jennifer of Washington, D.C., Alex Manders and husband Brandon of Etowah, Ashley Bryant and husband James of Madisonville, Dakota Duggan and Tristan Duggan of Etowah, and Garrett Mills and Silver Mills of Etowah; and great-grandchildren, Carter, Caden, Ireland, Andersen, and Nathan Mills, Geneva and Dorothy Gaston, Bailey, Hunter, and Willow Manders, and Kyson Duggan.

Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 with the funeral service to follow in the South Chapel, of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy McCarter and Pastor Mark Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 2nd and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 10 a.m. committal service, with Military Honors.
